Piney
Orchard is a
Planned Community in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Our
Community Features Singles, Towns, Condos and Apartments. Piney
Orchard is a "Mixed Use" Community and a significant number of
acres are zoned for light commercial and industrial use, though except
for a BGE depot, we have yet to see any office or industrial space built
out.
This website
is place for residents to share information and a resource if you're
considering moving here.
Located a little closer to Baltimore than to DC, Piney Orchard is a very
large community that aims to be a "mini-Columbia," but without
the brown (FYI, I have gotten three or four emails thinking this is a
racist remark---get a grip. Columbia is noted for the original
communities camouflaging themselves into the natural surroundings by
requiring all the homes be brown.) . Piney Orchard is developed by
Constellation Real Estate, a division of BGE. You'll notice a
large BGE installation located in our community.
Most folks who live here commute to DC for work, making the nearby
Odenton MARC station one of the busiest station in the system. The
newly renovated station is a pleasant place and MARC is great way to get
to work. Imagine putting less than 10,000 miles on your car in a
year...take the MARC and you will.
Located in Odenton, Piney Orchard attracts folks looking for a great
house and are willing to invest in a less than perfect (for now)
location. Odenton is an old train and farm town and is the home of
Fort Meade.
Odenton has never been a yuppie neighborhood and "west
county," aside from the Laurel area, has never gotten much
attention from the Anne Arundel establishment. So until
recently, we haven't had much convenient shopping. That changed
with the opening of our own small shopping center and the much larger
Village at Waugh Chapel. You now have a variety of restaurants and
retail stores close by. Those of us who moved here 10 years ago
when the community was just starting are thrilled, and you will be too.
But the best
thing to arrive is Arundel Mills Mall. Big, Huge, a shopper-tainment
complex. Outlets, company stores, Jillians, a 24 screen Egyptian themed
state-of-the-art movie complex are located just 10 minuets from the
center of Piney Orchard. I have only three words to describe
Arundel Mills: Kenneth Cole Outlet.
Annapolis, Columbia and Bowie are close by, each about 20 minutes away.
DC takes about 35 minutes with no traffic and Baltimore's Inner Harbor
takes about 25 minutes. DC in rush hour is a crap shoot--anywhere
from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. MARC takes about 50 minutes
from parking to the Metro.
The addition
of our Village
Center this year has provided residents with food store, great
pizza, a gas station and other stores. It's great to be able to
run into your neighbors over a slice a Sal's or renting a tape at
Blockbuster.
Got
Kids? We have an elementary school located right in the community.
Piney Orchard Elementary
School was a great accomplishment and has really set Piney Orchard
apart from other communities. The school is well equipped
and funded. Piney Orchard Parents take great pride
in the school.
Homes are still being built, so come on out and take a tour of our
community.
